While the ICC was established to serve international justice, it remains hindered by systematic injustices which allow powerful nations to shield themselves from scrutiny. These states take advantage of structural weaknesses to preserve impunity by refusing to ratify the Rome Statute, using the UNSC politically, and purposely undermining the court. Due to this, the ICC is allegedly being seen more as a tool of selective justice, especially against weaker states, than as a tool of justice. The goal of equal global justice will remain unfilled until structural changes are made to ensure equality. In order to ensure equal justice the ICC can increase international advocacy to hold countries accountable on the global stage. Furthermore, encouraging powerful states to ratify the Rome Statute through diplomacy and agreements can bring an enormous change to the ICC as it will bring an end to the double standard of only countries who are party to the Rome Statute being punished. Overall, to restore trust and uphold the values of equal justice, meaningful reforms are significant between the ICC and powerful states.
